Comfortable, connected and sustainable. An art historian and a lawyer wanted to give new life to their 100-year-old home. The renovation includes a new home office with custom-made mahogany built-in desk, bookcases, cabinets, and window seats. A music room includes an acoustic practice space and a handmade music and AV center. A new custom Murphy bed and half-bath transforms the family room into a guest suite. An improved connection between the house and yard—formerly accessible only via a dark, narrow stair—creates a sense of fluidity between the indoors and out. This was achieved with new exterior steps, slate-roofed bay window, and windows looking onto the rear yard under a trellis. The project also integrated a new solar hot water system and energy efficiency upgrades to bring the house in line with the owners’ sustainability goals.
